Silent Night

If there's one traditional Christmas song that I had to choose as "most favorite" in our house, it would have to be Silent Night. Such pure and simple words and melody that evoke an almost impossible, but truly longed for, ideal of what this holiday season should be about. I don't think you have to be Christian, or religious at all, to appreciate the beauty of this 200 year-old song.

Benjamin Wagner - "Silent Night"
John Denver & The Muppets - "Silent Night"
Chris Rice - "Silent Night"
Cyndi Lauper - "Silent Night"
Take 6 - "Silent Night"
The Carpenters - "Silent Night"
The Wiggles - "Silent Night"

- Phil, who thought twice before posting that last track.

stumbled onto your blog via Hype Machine. Great content, and great writing. Thanks!

Seriously Phil... did you have to? Sort of goes against my sub-title, no? And where is Tom Waits? The Thorns? Ben Harper? Damien Rice? All four better versions than Take 6's. Or you know whose. I'll have to post some of those tomorrow and make my point in song.

Clea, I have The Thorns (wish they'd do another CD) but, alas, it's a Protected iTunes file. I haven't heard the others... Please do post. I try to collect as many versions of Silent Night as I can.

Stevie Nick's version can make me cry.

An important note

I have posted MP3s for sampling purposes. Many are old school and not available on CD. But some aren't. Some are current. Support the bands you like by buying their CDs, seeing them live, wearing their tees. I'm gonna leave songs up for about a week or so. Then, poof. If you own the song and object to it's placement here, by all means, let me know. I'm happy to remove.
